About 4t's Lavender Farm

We aren't aren't a farm, but it's amazing what you can do with landscaping on a small very sunny property. Currently we have around 75 lavender plants, 20-25 varieties. We also have many fruit bearing plants, chamomile, calendula, and veggies.

OMG...

... I got a request and I was able to do the research, find a recipe, and order what I need. Hopefully by next week I'll have my supplies and be able to start on prototypes... it's soap so I could have a finished/cured product in 1-2 weeks. If only the website were that easy!!!

First Lavender crop harvested!!!

It was tiny, but hey it was harvested and now is bundled and waiting to be hung. It's a new variety for me this year, the colour is beautiful, but the stalks are short and stubby, who cares once plucked for use! Lavandula Angustifolia Aromatico Blue.

I also harvested about 100 more wild roses... and strung them all up to dry, I'm slowly pruning the unruly bush back... but the amount of buds still on it is amazing!!!

Also amazing is the amount of buds in the rain garden's French Lavender section after what 4'+ of snow did to my plants... I had thought about filling the whole thing in, good thing I'm busy and have far too many other projects that need attention! Not only has the Lavender come back fighting but so has my sage, I've never had crops so big!!!

I'm thinking my next few salts and fizzies/bombs are going to have some dried honeysuckle and dried rose petals in them!!!

Harvesting Time is here!!!

Okay I know I need pictures... but I'm having some difficulty! Where is a geek when you need one!!! So far this week... I got wild roses, red clover - though that's for tea, and pretty lavender to press to do art work with! Plus today I bought Calendula... already blooming so I guess I will just have to pluck all the pretty blooms off... yea, there was a reason for my tomboy tendencies!

Help!!!

Okay so I made my fantastic cool soap for my fur-less girls now how the heck do I get it out of the trays. I must find a no stick spray for future soap making projects... all I had was PAM and that just seemed gross... maybe I should have thought of it as a moisturising additive!

I have three varieties of Lavender that before I did research on plant usage I bought not realizing they are not good for drying... however the other day as I was surveying the land, I noticed they all were blooming cute little blooms, that could be pressed and then used in pressed art... if only this rain would stop so I could pluck! At least they all will be happily watered!

New Soap, for my fur-less friends

It's springtime... which means actual baths for my fur-less companions, so we all climbed into the tub the other night... okay I got in and Buddha jumped up and thought about it awhile till I pulled her in, Olivia... well I had to take her in with me! One day I need to but on my bathing suit and take pictures of this process b/c it's cute! Anywho, as I was shampooing Olivia I was thinking it would be great to have a soap specific to the sphynx breed and be able to have it in a terry cloth pouch! That was Wednesday night, now Sunday I have a recipe cooling in the fridge and a pattern awaiting the sewing machine! It would be great for newborn babies as well!!! A gentle mix of castile soap, calendula petals, lavender buds, oats, and milk... I can't wait for bath time!!!!

Getting Started

It's May and we have been throwing this idea of a Lavender farm around for about a month now. It's coming together, product ideas rolling off out of our brains, and off of my hands, our precious little crops growing strong in this crazy 2010 weather. A website that is behind the scenes being built... even if it's creator thought blood red was an appropriate colour!!! This blog will keep my fans, hehehe, updated on new products, and crop photo, as well as provide an excellent way for you to offer suggestions and requests, which I will greatly appreciate and try to accommodate! I will hopefully try to get pics up later this weekend!
